Global Steel Company looking for an Operations Supervisor.
Purpose / Function
- Provide direct supervision over the plant's entire personnel: production, fabrication,
receiving/shipping, inventory management, and safety.
- Manage all aspects of finished goods production, handling, storage and labeling.
- Work with Steel Plant Manager to develop production schedule based on order
fulfillment, raw material availability.
- Drive order fulfillment: manage scheduling, oversee staging, and ensure quality
of product.
- Take the lead in implementing continuous improvement activities such as 5S,
Set-up / Changeover Reduction, Visual Workplace Management, and preventative
maintenance.
- Participate in the administrative supervision of the entire steel plant.
- This position reports directly to the steel plant manager.
Primary Functions of the Steel Plant Operations Supervisor
- Support ongoing and new Safety initiatives, including development of Job
Hazard Analysis, and Lock-Out Tag-Out procedures.
- Manage production and shipping personnel, meeting productivity and quality
expectations.
- Manage operators and order fulfillment personnel on a daily basis, giving daily
task list to each work center and ensure people have the direction necessary to
effectively manage their day-to-day responsibilities.
- Identify and assist in locating material for material handlers.
- Plan and reserve locations for orders and stock material.
- Support cycle counting of stock inventory and orders on hand.
- Collaborate with Plant Manager and office staff to maintain job tracking
spreadsheet/tool and ready to ship report.
- Continuously improve housekeeping and organization through implementation of
5S.
- Maintain the Computerized Maintenance Management System for equipment
preventative maintenance
- Generate ideas for cost reductions and quality improvements by providing hands
on engineering support as necessary.
- Develop standard operating procedures.
- Develop effective processes to manage routine work prioritization, communication,
and decision-making for executing in the most effective manner.
- Lead team problem-solving and improvement initiatives
- Help document initial incident investigations in a timely manner through plant-wide
communications channels and direct contact with safety representative.
- Work closely with Plant Manager for cross-training and perform back-up duties as
necessary.
Requirements of the Steel Plant Operations Supervisor
- Demonstrated skills in communicating with reports, motivating and leading a team
of employees.
- Attention to detail
- Thorough knowledge and experience of Continuous Improvement / Lean tools and
activities, e.g. Set-up / Changeover Reduction, 5S, TPM, and Visual Workplace
Management.
- Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, E-mail and
Internet. Ability to learn ERP and Inventory systems.
- 3 - 10 years production supervisory experience.
- 3 - 5 years experience in a continuous improvement environment.
- BS in Engineering or related technical field.
